Married 6 years

Dave and I briefly met around the Holidays in 2001. We made no impression on each other, and in fact, he was at my house because my roommate liked him. We saw each other a few times at parties over the next few months and barely had anything to say to each other.

Then I suddenly had to move for the summer, and he helped me move that weekend. I started paying attention to his sense of humor. He was pretty quirky! By that time my roommate liked his best friend. They were big planners and Dave and I went along for the ride. We started chatting online at work during the day and getting to know each other.

I had decided to go to Utah for the 4th of July and needed a ride to the airport. I asked Dave because I thought he’d be available, since he got off work early. The drive to the airport was really awkward and strange, and I was thinking, “Oh no! He knows I like him, and this is weird for him now!” I was pretty bummed about the whole thing.

My hopes went up though when he called me while I was away in Utah, and when I flew home, he came to pick me up instead of my roommate. On the drive home he said, “I think that you know I like you. I want to keep spending time with you, but I’m not ready to say that I want to date you exclusively. I just want to be honest.” I could live with that.

That was July 7, 2002. On July 19th he asked me where I thought things would go with us. I said, “I think this is it.” He said, “I think so, too. Does this mean that we are getting married?” I said, “I think it does.”

Needless to say, he never did date anyone else after July 7th, and on July 27th he made it official and proposed with a ring. So, it was just 20 days from “I like you” to “Will you marry me?” I guess we were pretty efficient! We have been blissfully married for six years, and have two beautiful children!

Strengthening Our Marriage

Something we do to strengthen our marriage is to snuggle together, and have family snuggles too. We also like to find projects to work on as a couple!
