Straight Talk About Strengthening Marriage Intimately

Given the difficulty of finding a good sex therapist who also respects the divinity of marriage and sexuality, we have created the "Marital Intimacy Therapist Registry" (MITR) as a place for couples all over the world to find counselors that can help them improve their intimate relationships.

All therapists who have read and/or who are familiar with Laura Brotherson's book And They Were Not Ashamed--Strengthening Marriage through Sexual Fulfillment, and who are willing and able to help couples with sexual intimacy issues are invited to send us their information.

Bio/Comments Certified Emotionally Focused Therapy Trainer & Supervisor

"Becca" has been in clinical practice since1989, and has been going strong since then. Her interest has always been in relationships and families. She began initially working with children and soon realized that working with parents created more change, safety and help for children. Her first specialized, post-grad in-depth couple training was with John Gottman and his "Scientifically Based Marital Therapy." It was at a training with Dr. Gottman she became introduced to the phenomenal work of Dr. Susan Johnson and her model of couple's therapy.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) revolutionized Becca's work with couples, dramatically reducing the divorce rate of couples she worked with. She completed advanced training with Dr. Johnson becoming certified as an EFT Therapist and Supervisor. Becca is also one of the handful of endorsed trainers in the U.S. on Dr. Johnson's team.

She maintains a clinical practice to stay fresh as she works to advance Emotionally Focused Therapy. She is devoted to strengthening families through helping couples develop safe and secure marital bonds and helping other therapists learn really effective couple's therapy. Dr. Jorgensen is a Founder and Director of the San Diego Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Bio/Comments The Healing Place is intended to help clients achieve their fullest potential in their relationship to self and others. I have been successful at helping people feel better and relate more effectively. I can help you discover your most authentic self by getting to the core issues, and healing the underlying pain. I am especially skilled in helping families build healthy and rewarding relationships even in the midst of crisis and hopelessness. My dedication is to help you flourish in your life. In therapy, facing your "real" self can lead to a deeper understanding allowing you to become more whole.

Because I am married, with children (teens and tots) I am experienced in "doing life"! I can truly relate to the tremendous amount of pressure, demands, and stress involved in raising a family. Together we can assess and treat the problems within your family system and begin the healing process. Because of my investment in personal therapy, which enabled me to uncover the layers of hurt, sadness, pain and disappointment in my life, I am available to help others in their healing process. I know the power of a safe, confidential environment with a nonjudgmental caring therapist.

Bio/CommentsI am passionate about helping people fix/preserve/save their marriages - especially where children are involved! I am very familiar with Laura's book, as well as a number of other resources for intimacy and marital relationships. I have been trained in and use extensively the research and interventions of John Gottman, Ph.D., and continue to pursue continuing education in the area of marriage relationships. I have developed my own premarital/remarital counseling curriculum, and have worked with many couples recovering from betrayals, such as affairs and pornography use.

My style of therapy is very proactive, goal oriented, and demands time, energy, and courage from my clients. I expect couples to work hard at making changes they've identified as wanting, and give "homework" assignments between each session. I am also well aware that some of the hardest work is internal movement, which does not always have visible markers. I am a strong ally to the couples I work with, and the last one to give up on their marriage.

Bio/CommentsI was first introduced to the helping field during my first years in college while working with at-risk teenagers. I soon learned that I loved helping individuals and families who were struggling to find happiness. These experiences also helped me decide my college major and I graduated cum Laude from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Development.

Soon after graduating, I began working for the State of Utah in child protection. I quickly realized that I had limited abilities to help children and families and decided to continue my education. While exploring the different fields of counseling, I looked for one that maintained the philosophy that relationships and family are core to good mental health and life satisfaction. The field of Marriage and Family Therapy fit perfectly and I was soon enrolled in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Colorado State University.

In 2005, I graduated and moved back to my home state of Idaho to begin practicing. I am now in a group practice with the Cherry Lane Counseling Center and enjoy helping couples and families once again find joy and satisfaction in their lives.
